The Game Assembly Embargo Text
“I am part of The Game Assembly’s internship program. As per the agreement between the Games Industry and The Game Assembly, neither student nor company may be in contact with one another regarding internships before April 15. Any internship offers can be made on April 27th, at the earliest.”
Here is the about-me, lets-a-go.
Growing up I moved around a lot, this had a big effect on me growing up being able to experience and interact with so many different cultures, but obviously moving was quite tough, especially moving away from friends. The solution: GAMES! Many friendships that I still have today were kept alive through gaming, whether it be playing Minecraft and TF2 while talking over Skype, playing Titanfall or Dying Light over Xbox Live, and nowadays playing… well mostly those same games, but over Discord! Even talking about games with others whenever I went to a new school was an incredibly effective way of breaking the ice and gaining new friends.
Being able to hold and start friendships via games, even if they are single-player games, are incredibly important to me, and is one of the reasons why I want to make games. So I wondered how one would go about making games and creating fun moments people can share with friends, a large (and most interesting) portion of which was programming as well as game design.
So directly after graduating from High School in Texas I got accepted into the Game Design and Programming Bachelors att Uppsala University, so at 18 years old I made my first solo move back home to Sweden and lived in Visby for 3 years. After graduating I moved back to Stockholm and looked for a job, and after searching for about 9 months I realised that I needed to up-skill my programming skills, resulting in me applying and being accepted into The Game Assembly!
Here is the move order:
- Boca Raton, Florida, United States (Born 2002).
- Stockholm, Sweden (Sister is born here!).
- Tokyo, Japan.
- San Jose, Costa Rica.
- La Jolla, California, United States.
- River Forest, Illinois, United States.
- Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
- Frisco, Texas, United States.
- Visby, Gotland, Sweden.
- Stockholm, Sweden (I am here now!).
Enough about moving around!
Safe to say I enjoy learning things, a lot of inspiration that can be taken from the strangest of places! The coolest part I find is when you are able to tie and blend these inspirations together and implement them in games. Coolest example of developers doing this is The Archivist boss in Inscryption that uses something as simple as Metadata from files and makes it part of the boss battle. This inspired me so much that I used the same concept to make a visual novel of an escaped AI that runs around on the players desktop (WEIRD_CAT.EXE).
These strange quirks of polish and details is something I try to add in games that I work on, to me it makes games feel more complete, like painting the corners of a freshly painted floor.
Here are some things I enjoy doing in my free time :
- Playing Video Games! (Currently playing : Vintage Story).
- Learning strange facts (Platypuses are venomous).
- Watching lore videos about media that I’ll most likely never watch/play.
- Listening to podcasts (mostly sci-fi audio dramas).
- Practicing voice acting (it’s fun!).
- DM’ing the TTRPG Mörk Borg.
